Congratulate the Graduate, Texas Style!
Late May found us winging our way stateside to celebrate Chris' MBA graduation from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas in Austin. Such great work he did there with awesome support from Ashley and Jackson.
Ashley, Chris and Jax (and of course, baby "Dos") arrived in Austin the day before Justin, Elise and I got in from England. Mike met us there, too (as he had already left London for meetings in NYC and gone through Detroit. We're back to praying for him sometimes with "please bless him wherever he is!"). Chris' parents, Jim and Marlys, came in the day after we did and together we celebrated big time!
Friday night, May 22nd, was convocation for Chris and he was very official-looking in his robes and mortar board hat. We all enjoyed the keynote speaker, Ray Nixon Jr. To our cheers, claps and smiles, Chris' name was read and he strode the stage for handshakes and his diploma.
Saturday's events (keynote speaker, lighting of the tower and fireworks display) was cancelled due to the horrible weather with tons of rain, thunder, lightening and some tornado-type activity. But special dinners, fun ventures, game times and laughs rounded out our weekend together. Good times!
Ashley, Chris and Jackson soon head to Northern California's Bay Area where they'll get settled, Chris will begin work for Google in Mountain View and Baby Dos will be born in late August/early September. Blessings all 'round!
He and Ash make a super team -- along with mascot Jax! So proud of and happy for him/them! And we were thankful to share in the graduation festivities! As they say at UT: "Hook 'Em Horns!"
Lavender Plantation Wanders
Back home again for a bit now! And Mom and Dad zipped down from Tennessee to
share some time with me. It was
wonderful to catch up, talk for ages and laugh together. We explored some, too!
. . . Springtime in Georgia brought the
beauty of lavender to Barrington Hall Plantation in historic Roswell,
Georgia. Music, artisan crafts and all
things using the purple posey were featured. Mom, Dad
and I strolled the grounds perusing the lovely handicrafts, plants, antiques
and foods. Tastes of lavender everything from potato salad to marshmallows, and ice cream to lemonade were
among our favorite treats.
Of course, it
was only 95 degrees that day – no wonder those southern belles used to get the
“vapors”! Whew! The festival was delightful, but I have to
admit getting back home to the AC felt great, too. Well, we always wanted to be “cool”! ;)
Tea-Time Shower for Ashley and Baby-Girl-to-Be
Ashley, her grandmas and I have been loving tea parties
together since she was a little bitty girl.
So it seemed only fitting to throw a baby shower for Ashley and her
precious baby-daughter-to-be at the Tea Leaves and Thyme Tea House in Woodstock,
Georgia.
Many family members and friends
joined in celebrating with us! As proper
ladies, we donned our tea-time hats and/or boas, chatted and noshed on quiche,
chicken salad, scones with lemon curd, tea sandwiches, yummy desserts and
herbal teas.
What a special time to
share with many dear people in our lives who have loved Ashley for years.
As for the other guest of honor, “Dos”, she had a lovely
time, too! (She is nicknamed “Dos” –-
Spanish for ‘two’ -- as she will be Ashley and Chris’ second child and they
spent time in Spain before her birth).
She will look adorable in each of the darling gifts she received and
have treasures to play with, as well! Thanks
all!
