Defining Moments

Letters -- Translations of Interesting English-isms!
  • “Cookies” = “biscuits”
  • Got a flyer inviting us to join the “Bermondsey Biscuit Factory.”  Secure in the knowledge that cookies are called “biscuits” here, I had already “translated” and was excited.  A local cookie factory with memberships?  Score!!  I was all about it and then I found out what it really was --  a gym!    Ironic?!?
  • Grocery shopping offers some fascinating options!  There are pastys -- like meat pies.  Then the “Soreen – The original Malt Loaf” with a tag line of “Deliciously squidgy energy”  . . . can’t even imagine what that might be.  What in the world is “squidgy”?!?  Then there are the "crisps" (potato chips) -- unusual flavors like roasted chicken and thyme for chips?  Hmmmm.  All-in-one meals?

  2. Ha ha! How disappointing that must have been to discover the cookie factory was actually a gym.
