Keen to solve a mystery, Mike and I explored London’s immersive dining experience, “Gingerline,” in a secret East London location. It was a wacky and wild ride, but fun and delicious; we loved it!
First, we didn’t receive any clues as to where it would be held except for which bus or tube station to be waiting in at a certain time of evening on the date of the dinner. We arrived at the bus station and anxiously awaited our texted instructions. The text instructed us to go to an industrial area of London and follow the musical note clues to dinner’s location. Mind you, the musical notes we were hunting took some sleuthing to find!
Once we traversed the London Dock area, we came to the meet-up spot we eventually ferreted out and were whisked away with the other dining detectives to a warehouse which was festooned with Opera regalia and we proceeded to have the most hilarious, audience participation play “Madame Gingerline – An Opera in Five Courses” along with our gourmet meal.
Courses included:
We dined, we sang, we ran from room to room, we commiserated with the actors, and joined in solving the mystery of what happened and who-done-it. It was hilarious and unique. A must-do to be sure!
- Overture: flowers, tomato, beetroot, scarmoza, basil, almond and pumpkin emulsion
- Mother’s Gift: open squid-ink ravioli with shellfish, prawn, ikura, amarillo chili cram, salty fingers
- Intermission: aperol foam, blood orange sorbet
- Bloody Crescendo: lamb, sweet potato, tonka bean, tamarillo ‘blood’, truffle jus, cabbage crisp
- Lucia’s Vendetta: tiramisu, chocolate, violet cream, cherries
