Wow - Wembley Stadium . . . Hampton Court Flower Show Blossoms . . . A Right Proper Ascot

So happy Justin and Elise were also able to come see us!  We had great times venturing before their additional vacation time in Europe and then after they came back to play in London, too!

Wembley Stadium Tour

A behind-the-scenes tour of famous Wembley Stadium made us all football (i.e. soccer) fans.  Seating 90,000, and the second largest stadium in Europe, it hosts the Football Association (FA) cup Final, international football matches, concerts, and special events.

Lots of their historical football treasures, such as the Jules Rimet Trophy which commemorates England's World Cup glory, THE flag from London's 1948 Olympics and revered player's jerseys are housed there, too.  It has a partially retractable roof and a distinctive 440 foot high arch.

We toured England's dressing room, ran the player's tunnel, went pitch-side, enjoyed views from the manager's benches, held the FA Cup trophy replica, and took the hot seat in the Press Room!   We're ready now -- put us in Coach!

Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

Blossoms aplenty burst forth in the largest flower show in the world at the spectacular Hampton Court Palace of King Henry VIII.  Over 130,000 people attend annually.

Hosted by The Royal Horticultural Society each year, this event is located on the north and south sides of the Long Water in Hampton Court Park.   It features show gardens, floral marquees, pavilions, talks and demonstrations of flower arranging, art, and outdoor furniture and products.  In fact, we discovered our portable Unni Pizza Oven here!

The stunning colors, sights, scents and artistry were phenomenal and we were in Heaven as we took in the gorgeous displays.  Made me wish I had a green thumb!

Ascot

Wow!  Starry-eyed and audacious-hat-wearing, I was ecstatic to attend the Ascot Horse Races with Mike, Mom, Justin and Elise!  Experiencing this event was about the most British thing I had ever imagined.  And it did not disappoint; the hype was true -- a spectacle that dazzled and delighted.

We felt quite at home as we learned the proper pronunciation of the race and town it was located in was "Ask-it."  Milling about in the Queen Anne Enclosure, dining on the grounds and doing some of the most incredible people watching ever, I felt like we were in the scene from My Fair Lady.  Elegance and proper-ness was the order of the day.  It's still a little surreal, frankly.

Not sure what was more incredible -- the history of it, the unbelievable & fantastical hats and fascinators, being literally three feet from HRH Queen Elizabeth II as she rode by waving in her open-air coach, the beautiful and sleek thoroughbred horses or the thrill of the races themselves.  Quite giddy, I relished every moment and even guessed correctly on a race or two -- bragging rights, no cash.  ;)
