Travel Bingo -- Travels to other places while living in London
Wandering through the Cotswolds area located a couple of hours drive outside London was a soul-nourishing experience with all the natural beauty there. It was like a storybook come to life with expanses of lush green hills, bright yellow fields of grape seed plants, woolly sheep and frolicking lambs, picturesque and old world villages, tree-lined roads and castles in the distance. Oh, but it was gorgeous! And quite a nice break from the city.
After a questionable start to our rental car idea (blown out tire next to a fully-packed-spilling-out-of-the-pub-onto-the-road-hearty-drinking-Irish crowd), Mike braved the wrong-side-of-the-road-and-car-drivers-in-England and he and our spare tire took us to days gone by as we meandered rural roads and chased castles through the countryside.
Beginning at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, Mike, Justin, Elise and I strolled through pretty gardens to view a myriad of animal friends including zebras, giraffes, camels, meerkats, red pandas, etc., etc. Our favorites were the rhinos grazing and trundling along in front of an ancient castle near their sprawling enclosure and the lemur forest we were allowed into as they jumped from fence to tree right in front of us -- thought one would land on Mike's shoulder!
From there we hopped in and out of the car as we traversed a mapped-out path from tiny town, to cathedral, to next town, to castle and even to a nuclear bunker. Town names were like Bibury, Arlingham, Cheltenham and Chipping Norton. Just look at these pictures. How charming, right?! Can't wait to go back!
